First recorded in Shotley, in the Parish of Bywell St Andrew in 1570. Held lands in Shotley Bridge, Waskerley and Haughcleugh. Also of Crossgate, Durham. Physician to the Duke of Cumberland, a daughter married the 13th Marquis of Winchester.
